Article Icon 1Texas Halts New Funding for Border Wall

The Texas Legislature voted in the final hours of its session to stop any new funding for the construction of the border wall, leaving about 740 miles of the planned 806-mile wall incomplete.

Lawmakers approved a $3.4 billion budget for border security with little debate, but no funds were allocated for border wall construction. The majority of funding is headed to the Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard.

Gov. Abbott said in a statement this week that border wall construction would continue on active contracts.

Hair care giant John Paul Mitchell Systems—parent company for Paul Mitchell, Tea Tree, and Neuro—is relocating its headquarters from California to North Texas, bringing a $12 million investment and adding 80 new jobs.

To sweeten the deal, Texas awarded the company a $640,000 grant as Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated the move, saying, “Texas is the headquarters of headquarters.”

The new corporate headquarters and a product distribution center will be located in Wilmer in southern Dallas County, according to Abbott’s office.

Article Icon 1Texans Make Richest Self-Made Women List

Nine Texas women were featured in a new list from Forbes ranking the richest self-made women in America in 2025.

Pacing the Texans is Thai Lee, CEO of IT infrastructure company SHI International. Heading the largest women-owned organization in the U.S., Lee’s net worth is $6.1 billion—good enough for No. 6 on the list.

The list assesses not only net worth but also how far each woman had to climb to make her fortune.

Robyn Jones, who started her own business out of frustration that her truck-driving husband was always on the road, is the next Texan at No. 28.

Tied with Jones at No. 28 is SpaceX president and COO Gwynne Shotwell, followed by Austin-based jewelry designer Kendra Scott at No. 41. You can see the full list here.
