Abbott Seeks Removal of Democratic Chair
Gov. Greg Abbott filed a lawsuit with the Texas Supreme Court seeking the removal of State Rep. Gene Wu (D-Houston) from office, accusing the Texas House Democratic Caucus chair of being the “ringleader of the derelict Democrats.”
Attorney General Ken Paxton said he will seek a court order to vacate the seats of absent members who don’t return to work by Friday. President Donald Trump said the FBI “may have to” get involved. “You can’t just sit it out, you have to go back,” he said.
Yesterday morning, House Democrats in Chicago held a press conference with Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin and members of the Texas Democratic congressional delegation. U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Dallas derided Republicans as “weak,” saying, “we about to beat you down.”
State Sen. Phil King (R-Weatherford) filed the Senate’s redistricting plan on Monday, using the same maps as the House plan. It’s scheduled for hearings today, tomorrow, and Friday.
Spurs Arena Funding Goes to Ballot
Bexar County voters will get to weigh in on public funding for a new Spurs arena this November. Yesterday, commissioners voted 4-1 to call an election to raise the hotel tax from 1.75% to 2%, which would generate up to $311 million for the proposed arena.
The new arena, which could cost up to $1.5 billion, is the centerpiece of a proposed sports and entertainment district dubbed Project Marvel. The Spurs have pledged $500 million for the arena, and the city of San Antonio is exploring options to provide another $500 million.
Last week, a consulting firm hired by the city predicted the development could produce an economic impact of $18.7 billion over the next 30 years, including $351 million in taxes. Critics have dismissed the report as a marketing ploy.
On Monday, a coalition of organizations opposed to the project held a press conference at the Alamodome, calling on elected officials to “invest in community needs before a new stadium is built.” The city is expected to discuss the firm’s report during a meeting today.
High School Football Gets Wearable Tech
When Texas high school football kicks off in a few weeks, many teams will be using wearable technology that enables coaches to relay calls to players on the field.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL), which regulates athletics competition among Texas public schools, approved a rule allowing the technology earlier this year.
Coaches in the press box will be able to communicate with any player wearing a watch, wristband, belt, or other device capable of receiving the one-way messages. Coaches on the sidelines can’t relay calls, and voice transmission is not allowed.
The move aims to streamline play-calling and reduce sign-stealing. It illustrates the growing trend of incorporating technology at every level of competition. Last season, the UIL allowed the use of video review and data analysis tools during games.

From a Caltech Garage to a $1 Trillion Market
In 2016, some innovative Caltech robotics students set out to transform fast food. That first garage-built prototype became Miso Robotics.
Since then, Miso’s robots have worked 200K+ hours in live kitchens for brands like White Castle, frying over 4 million baskets of fries, chicken, and more. That traction convinced NVIDIA, Uber AI, and Amazon to help refine Miso’s AI and robots. As restaurants grapple with 144% employee turnover rates and $20/hour minimum wages, that’s a major edge.
It’s no wonder Miso’s first fully commercial robot, Flippy Fry Station, sold out of initial units in one week.
Now, Miso is going nationwide and scaling its U.S.-based manufacturing across a $4 billion/year revenue opportunity. As an investor, you can get up to 8% bonus stock.
