Good Morning! On this day in 1928, child actor George Robert Phillips McFarland was born in Dallas. McFarland starred as the character Spanky in the popular Our Gang series of short comedies, which was later renamed The Little Rascals when syndicated for TV.
We love dogs and the Aggies here at The Texas Flyover, but we goofed up when we referred to Texas A&M’s live mascot as a Border Collie. Many readers reminded us that the “First Lady of Aggieland” is actually a Rough Collie. We apologize for the error!
At The Flyover, we’ve tested plenty of skincare products—but Nimi Skincare has quickly become a favorite among our team. Proudly American-made and rooted in faith, family, and freedom, Nimi blends clean ingredients with real results you can see and feel.
Take The Flyover with you. Busy day? Listen to our daily 15-minute podcast while commuting, cooking, or walking the dog—your Flyover fix, anywhere.
From the Founder’s Desk: Why I Want Flyover Readers to Own The Texas Flyover
When I decided to accept investors in The Texas Flyover, one thing mattered to me more than anything: that our readers would have the chance to become our owners. If I had my druthers, every single investor in The Texas Flyover would be a TexasFlyover reader. That’s why we’ve structured this offering with you in mind:
5% bonus shares for all TexasFlyover readers who invest
Anadditional 5% and 10% bonus for those investing larger amounts
Legally, the offering is open to any U.S. citizen. But my heart—and our strategy—are focused on keeping ownership in the hands of our readers. Right now, we’re less than $350,000 away from hitting 50% of our ultimate funding goal – but our Q3 deadline for 50% raised has passed and we are behind.
But some of our readers are asking: “How do I get a return on my investment?”
Here’s why The Texas Flyover is different:
Already profitable after just two years (most start-ups never are)
80% gross margins and 24% net income (exceptional margins)
In the top 1% of media start-ups (proven strength)
How investors could realize returns:
A Sale – Only to a partner who shares our values. (CNN or theNew York Times need not apply.)
Public Listing – Shares traded openly on an exchange.
Profit Distributions (Dividends) – Because we’re already profitable, this is possible.
Recap: Sale. Listing. Distributions.
My Closing Pitch
More than 1,450 Flyover readers have already joined us as investors. We’re just $350K away from our next milestone. If you’ve been considering investing, now is the moment. Let’s finish this round together and make The Texas Flyover a news company truly owned by its readers.
Will you be one of the investors who help us keep The Texas Flyover reader-owned?
After Congress failed to pass a funding bill ahead of a Tuesday deadline to avoid a government shutdown, more than 230,000 Texans who serve in the military or work for the federal government could be furloughed or forced to work without pay.
While workers will receive back pay when a funding bill is passed, some non-essential services may be temporarily disrupted or delayed. Pending appropriation bills also contain around $675 million earmarked for projects in Texas that could be cut to secure the votes to reopen the federal government.
The shutdown could affect staffing at airports and the state’s two national parks, as well as cause delays in processing applications for grants, passports, and benefits programs. Immigration enforcement, military operations, and the mail shouldn’t be significantly affected.
In a statement, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz blamed Democrats for blocking a bill that would have averted a shutdown, saying they want “taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens and a reversal of the Republican reforms blocking handouts to able-bodied adults who refuse to work.”
Tony Parker’s Mansion Listed for $20 Million
San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker is selling his 53-acre estate in Boerne for $20 million after enlisting one of the world’s top live streamers to boost its profile this summer.
Parker said he built the 13,297-square-foot mansion as a “dream house for my family” during his NBA career, but he’s “spending more time in France now” since retiring in 2019.
Earlier this year, Parker’s real estate agent suggested inviting Twitch streamer Kai Cenat to spend a month broadcasting from the property, and it “went trending worldwide in the first 45 minutes.”
The estate includes a sprawling private waterpark with eight pools, speed slides, and a lazy river; a 6,000-square-foot gym with a basketball court and arcade; tennis and sand volleyball courts; and a fruit orchard with a tortoise pond.
The mansion itself is equally impressive, boasting six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a library, a media room, a meditation suite, a barber studio, and a 1,500-bottle wine room.
Injured Firefighter Eager to Return to Work
Fort Worth firefighter Caleb Halvorson, 26, is recovering at Parkland Hospital after he was seriously injured while responding to a fire last month. In a nearby hospital, his son—weighing just one pound nine ounces when he was born 13 weeks premature in June—is receiving treatment in the NICU.
Halvorson thought he was going to die when he was trapped for nearly two minutes under a collapsed garage roof on Sept. 3. He’s undergone three surgeries for second and third-degree burns and a damaged knee, with several more to come.
While he’s currently using a wheelchair, Halvorson is determined to return to work as a firefighter. Before that, though, he’s eager to see his son: “It’s tough, I miss the little guy,” he said.
Halvorson’s fellow firefighters call his survival “nothing short of miraculous.” His wife, Haley, acknowledged that “this could have been so much worse” and remains optimistic that “we will get back to a normal life eventually.”
