Question: What Texas county seat was originally known as Twist Junction?

Answer: Dalhart, the county seat of Dallam County. The settlement was platted in 1901 where the Rock Island and Pacific Railway crossed the Fort Worth and Denver City line. It was later named Denrock, a portmanteau of the two railroad lines. When the U.S. Postal Service objected, the town’s name was changed to Dalhart, as it straddles the the boundary between Dallam and Hartley counties. In 1903, it replaced Texline as the Dallam County seat.
