The Roundup

Article Icon 1South American Group Linked to Robberies

Law enforcement officials linked more than 60 Houston-area robberies to the transnational organized crime network South American Theft Group.

Officials said the group targets second-story rear windows between 7 and 9 p.m., uses screwdrivers to gain entry, disables cameras, jams Wi-Fi signals, and steals high-value designer items.

The group hit the Houston suburb of West University Place in January and stole an estimated $500,000 to $650,000 in designer jewelry and other items.

The FBI said the group consists of “foreign nationals of South American descent” who are in the U.S. illegally or who have overstayed visas. One man was arrested last month, and the FBI considers the group a national security concern.

Article Icon 1Report Shows Texas Man Killed by DHS

A U.S. citizen was killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during a late-night traffic stop last March, according to a newly released report.

According to a report from nonprofit watchdog group American Oversight, Ruben Ray Martinez was shot by an ICE agent on South Padre Island after refusing to exit his vehicle and attempting to strike the agent with his vehicle.

The incident was covered by local news sources but wasn’t made public by the Department of Homeland Security.

Data from ICE show a 400% spike in use-of-force incidents, while the DHS has reported 23 separate instances where agents were attacked or injured during the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operation.

Article Icon 1Former NFL Player Indicted in Fraud Scheme

Former NFL player and McKinney native Keith J. Gray was convicted in a $328 million genetic testing fraud scheme.

Gray, who played at UConn before the Carolina Panthers drafted him, paid kickbacks through sham “marketing hours” contracts, targeting Medicare beneficiaries and pressuring doctors into ordering unnecessary tests.

Gray owned and operated two clinical laboratories, Axis Professional Labs LLC and Kingdom Health Laboratory LLC.

Gray was convicted of conspiracy to defraud the U.S., five counts of violating the anti-kickback statute, and he faces three additional counts of money laundering.

Contracts That Last A Lifetime (And Beyond)

Some timeshare contracts are written to last forever, with no natural end date. That means owners could be responsible for rising fees for life, and in some cases, the burden can even be passed down to their children. Instead of offering flexibility, these contracts trap families in obligations they never expected. What once seemed like a vacation plan quickly turns into a generational financial strain.

With years of proven legal expertise, Stonegate has become a trusted leader in timeshare exits.
