The Roundup

Article Icon 1Strong Job Growth Expected

More than 278,000 new jobs are predicted to be added in Texas in 2026, according to a new report from the Dallas Federal Reserve.

This news comes as the Texas Workforce Commission said Texas added 40,100 nonfarm jobs in January 2026, bringing the total to 14,379,500 positions, a historic high.

Among major Texas metros, Austin and San Antonio posted the fastest employment growth at 5.9 percent, followed by Dallas at 4.8 percent, El Paso at 4.4 percent, Houston at 4.1 percent, and Fort Worth at 2.9 percent,” said Luis Torres, Dallas Fed senior business economist.

The Fed also reports that employment in Texas overall grew at an annualized 2.3% in January, while December job growth was 2.2%.

Article Icon 1Texas Curriculum Under Review

The Texas State Board of Education is hearing public comment on proposed changes to the social studies curriculum at a meeting in Austin this morning.

Among the changes being considered is a stronger emphasis on U.S. and Texas history, taught in chronological order, starting in early grades.

The draft also includes references to religion as part of historical instruction, particularly when teaching about the founding of the United States and Western civilization.

A vote is expected to be scheduled later.

Article Icon 1Rare Albino Bluebonnets Spotted

Rare albino bluebonnets were spotted on Friday at Inks Lake State Park in Central Texas, with park rangers sharing a photo.

Bluebonnets can be seen all over the state, as the Texas Department of Transportation sows 30,000 pounds of wildflower seeds, including bluebonnets, along highways every year.

In San Antonio, Bexar Blooms planted bluebonnets around downtown to celebrate the 125th anniversary of bluebonnets being named the state flower.

For Dallas area bluebonnet admirers, D Magazine put together a list of 40 spots to take pictures within a day’s driving distance of the city.

Bluebonnet season typically spans from early March to late April.

The Flyover

We were told inflation was “transitory.” Then we were told it was “over.” The mainstream narrative’s portrayal of the cost of living is an insult to every hardworking American.

For those near retirement, this puts you in the worst economic scenario imaginable. Another extended period where prices are rising, yet economic growth is slowing.

Only this time, the Fed can’t save you. They can’t raise interest rates after the recent secondary cut, as it would bring the economy to a halt. They can’t lower interest rates again without fueling inflation to new highs.
