 NASA Funds Houston Space Center Upgrade
NASA has tapped seven firms to modernize aging facilities at Johnson Space Center in Houston under a construction contract worth up to $300 million.
The companies will compete for task orders covering buildings, utilities, and equipment across the campus, with all funds due to be obligated by Sept. 30. Much of the infrastructure dates to the 1960s.
JSC anchors America’s human spaceflight program, home to Mission Control and astronaut crew training. The work aims to keep Houston’s Space City campus ready for the next era of exploration.

Paxton Probes Energy Drink Marketing
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton opened an investigation into Celsius Holdings and its Alani Nu energy drink, alleging the company markets dangerously caffeinated products to teenagers.
Each 12-ounce can packs 200 milligrams of caffeine, a level the state says medical professionals consider dangerous for children, and regulators are weighing whether the labeling violates the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
The probe follows a wrongful-death lawsuit by the family of a South Texas 17-year-old cheerleader who, the suit alleges, died from an enlarged heart tied to excessive caffeine. Alani Nu’s colorful, youth-oriented branding drew the state’s scrutiny.

El Paso Schools Vote to Slash Jobs
El Paso’s largest school district voted to declare financial exigency Thursday, a move that lets it break contracts and slash hundreds of jobs to close a projected $42.1 million budget gap for next year.
The 5-1 decision cuts 54 teaching positions, 40 contracted workers, and 150 at-will employees, trimming the shortfall to about $4.3 million. Trustees will notify staff and adopt a budget June 16.
