Good morning! On this day in 1899, San Marcos’ mayor and city council approved handing Chautauqua Hill to the state for a new teachers’ school. Old Main opened on the hill in 1903, and the school grew into Texas State University.
Peptides are getting a lot of attention these days, but knowing where to start isn’t always easy. A few of us here at The Flyover recently tried today’s sponsor, The Pep Report, and were impressed by how simple the process was and how interesting it is to learn more about your own genetics.

Trump Drops Execution Livestream
President Trump said Thursday the Pentagon won’t livestream the Dec. 3 firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.
Trump called off the stream in a social media post, writing that showing the world how America deals with “Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan” might have deterred others. But he said many people “would rather not watch him die.”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced earlier this month that the execution would be public, and the Pentagon later confirmed a livestream. Republicans and Democrats objected, many warning the footage could fuel radicalization, and Vice President JD Vance said he wouldn’t watch.
Victims’ immediate families may still watch in person. The military hasn’t executed a service member by firing squad since World War II, and its last execution of any kind was a 1961 hanging.

Huffines Cuts Off Flock Camera Grants
Texas Comptroller Don Huffines signed an executive order Tuesday barring cities and police departments from spending his office’s grant money on Flock cameras and other license plate readers.
The order covers cameras, software, and data subscriptions from Flock, Motorola, Axon, and their resellers, including renewals of existing contracts. It doesn’t ban the cameras statewide.
“The government has no business tracking where law-abiding Texans drive,” Huffines said, calling warrantless tracking a Fourth Amendment violation. Texans, he said, should be able to drive to church or the grocery store “without a government camera logging it in a database.”
Gov. Greg Abbott’s office has said most camera funding comes from federal sources, so it’s unclear how much the limit on future grants will affect local police.

Plano Dad Delivers Son Outside Hospital
A Plano dad delivered his own son in a Medical City Plano parking lot before his wife could make it inside.
Emma Contreras wasn’t due with the couple’s third child until the next week, and even their doula thought she had time. During the drive to the hospital, however, Emma could barely sit in the car. A red light about five minutes from the hospital refused to turn green.
Diego Contreras ran inside to alert ER staff, but when he got back to the car, Emma told him, “He’s here.” Diego squatted in front of her and caught baby Beni as she delivered standing up. Emma snapped a photo moments later.
Mom and Beni are doing well, and Emma’s wish that Diego be more involved this time came true. “We didn’t mean it like this, but I was really proud of him,” she said.
