Good morning! On this day in 1872, Republican governor E. J. Davis was indicted by a grand jury for invalidating the election results for the Third Congressional District in an effort to seat the Republican candidate, William T. Clark, over Democrat Dewitt Clinton Giddings. Giddings had won by 135 votes.
Things got heated during a recent Tarrant County Commissioners Court meeting when three people were kicked out for disrupting the proceeding. Some of the elected officials got in on the action, too. Check out the story below!

Gov. Greg Abbott issued a series of executive orders Wednesday that enlist state resources in the Trump Administration’s nationwide effort to deport illegal immigrants.
The five orders require state agencies to assist federal law enforcement in detaining and deporting illegal immigrants, to share intelligence on criminal organizations like Tren de Aragua, and to support the Border Patrol and U.S. military in deploying border barriers and “repelling the invasion.”
“Now, we have a Commander-in-Chief in the White House who will do what is necessary to protect Americans,” Abbott said. “Just like President Donald Trump and his Administration, Texas will do what is necessary to keep our country safe.”
Sales of THC Products Spike As Potential Ban Looms
Retailers of products containing THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, have seen an increase in sales since Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick indicated last month that he wants to ban the sale of such products.
“People are in disbelief,” said Scott Stubbs, president of cannabinoid retailer Sublingwell Brands. “All of them are experiencing fear and anxiety about the potential ban.”
Since 2019, state law has allowed the sale of hemp products containing less than 0.3% THC, but Patrick claims retailers are selling products with much higher concentrations and that such products are often marketed to children.
On Wednesday, Patrick released the first 25 of his 40 legislative priorities for the session. “Banning THC in Texas” ranked third on the list after the state budget and “Providing School Choice.”
County Meeting Goes off the Rails
At least three people were forcibly removed from Tuesday’s meeting of the Republican-controlled Tarrant County Commissioners Court as a new policy regulating public comments and decorum was debated and ultimately approved in a 3-2 party-line vote.
At one point, Judge Tim O’Hare ordered the removal of a man who used profanity after indicating he wanted to address the court about a death in the county jail. When he protested that what he said was protected speech, Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons asked the court’s lawyer to weigh in. He answered that it violated court policy. O’Hare agreed.
“That’s fine, that’s f***ing fine,” Simmons responded, prompting O’Hare to call her “the most classless person we’ve ever had sitting on this dais.” See a video of the exchange here.
The policy, which authorizes limiting the number of people allowed to speak on a specific agenda item and requires those who wish to address the court to sign up the day before, was proposed after an unruly meeting earlier this month resulted in two arrests.
