We’re So Close. This Is the Moment.
We’re entering the final stretch of our campaign to reach 2,000 reader-investors, and we’re closer than ever. Eleven days ago, we set out with a simple but ambitious goal: prove that everyday Americans—not corporations or political machines—can build a trustworthy, independent newsroom together.
Today, we’re within striking distance.
If you’ve been thinking about investing… If you’ve been waiting for the right moment… If you’ve wondered whether your contribution truly matters… This is that moment.
Every new investor helps strengthen something rare in American media: a reader-owned outlet committed to honesty, fairness, and fact-first reporting. Reaching 2,000 investors means more state editions, and more accountability—without compromising our independence.
We are so close to showing the country that a different kind of media company can exist—and thrive. But we can’t finish this without you.
If The Flyover has earned your trust, we hope you’ll take that final step with us.
Uvalde County Judge William Mitchell was suspended without pay by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct on Tuesday after he was indicted for official oppression earlier this month.
The misdemeanor charge stems from a March incident in which Mitchell ordered the arrest of a UPS driver, Tyler Cox, who left packages for the third floor of the county courthouse on the first floor because the elevator was broken.
Mitchell allegedly yelled at Cox, grabbed his loaded dolly, and seized his cell phone. Cox claims he was detained for five minutes without being read his Miranda rights.
Cox, 29, filed a $15 million lawsuit against Mitchell and the county, and he recently requested a change of venue. Mitchell is set to retire next year after 40 years in office.
Floating Solar Power Plant Slated for Sabine Lake
A Southeast Texas startup is building a 391-megawatt floating solar power plant across nearly 2,300 acres of Sabine Lake, making it the largest such project in the U.S. and the third-largest in the world.
Diligence Offshore Services is partnering with Florida-based Accusolar to develop the Pleasure Island Power Collective, which will also include a 225-megawatt onshore wind farm, a battery storage system, and a data center.
Diligence founder Harry C. Crawford III said the project is not being funded by federal subsidies, and he did not request a tax break from the city of Port Arthur. However, Diligence aims to expedite the development of the project by asking the federal government to designate it as important to national security.
“This partnership not only strengthens our domestic supply chain but also accelerates our vision to bring economic freedom and climate resilience to the Gulf Coast,” said Crawford.
Horse Visits Target
Shoppers at a Dallas Target encountered a cowboy hat-wearing horse walking the aisles with its owner last week, an experience many social media users said could only happen in Texas.
Michael Duncan, the horse’s owner, posted a video of the shopping trip to his Instagram page, where one user commented that it was “better behaved than most kids I’ve seen in Target lately.”
A TikTok video posted by another customer garnered more critical responses. One user said the owner should “park it outside with the rest of the transportation,” while another commented, “RIP to the minimum wage worker that now has to shovel horse [manure] off isle 6.”
Target has not yet responded to a request for comment. Duncan and his horse have also visited Tecovas and Best Buy stores, and they’ve met country star Parker McCollum and gymnast-turned-model Livvy Dunne.
