Article Icon 1State Fair Gun Ban Goes to Texas Supreme Court

Attorney General Ken Paxton took his legal fight against the Texas State Fair’s firearms ban to the Texas Supreme Court, arguing that fair officials don’t have the right to “nullify” state law by barring guns.

Two lower courts previously denied Paxton’s appeal, filed after the State Fair announced new security measures that included a complete ban on guests bringing guns to the event.

Paxton’s appeal argues the rule violates state law, which permits licensed gun holders to carry in places owned or leased by government bodies. Fair officials say the rule “is just a measure to create a further family-friendly atmosphere.”

The fair opens today and runs for 24 days. Here’s information on attending.

The Austin City Council approved a major expansion of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport that will nearly double its size by 2030.

Projects include a new 20-gate concourse, a new arrivals and departures hall, a new parking garage, and an expanded curbside drop-off area.

Work has already begun on expanding one of three TSA checkpoints and building a new outbound baggage handling system.

The estimated $4 billion “Journey With AUS” plan is being funded by FAA grants, airport revenues, bonds, and reserves.

The world’s first 3D-printed hotel is being built in Marfa by the owner of the existing El Cosmico hotel and campground there in partnership with Austin-based 3D printing company ICON.

The crane-sized Vulcan printer stands 15.5 feet tall, is 46.5 feet wide, and weighs 4.75 tons, while the “ink” is a proprietary cement-based material called Lavacrete.

The architects say the technology allows them to make curved walls and to experiment with more organic forms and shapes.

The project is part of a 60-acre expansion that will include 43 hotel rooms and 18 residences. ICON is the same company also working on a 3D-printed neighborhood in the Austin suburb of Georgetown.

The Flyover is just like The Texas Flyover, except it covers news from all fifty states. Sign up with one click!

Dear Reader,

262 days!

It was 262 days ago today when we launched The Texas Flyover with the simple belief that, like us, everyday Texans are fed up with the daily barrage of biased, corporate media like the Austin American-Statesman and The Texas Tribune.

Some of you have been flying with us from the start, and others have boarded along the way. I am so grateful you’re here.

Since our launch, the mainstream media has gotten worsewith celebrity journalists pushing their agendas and favorite candidates under the guise of impartial reporting. We aren’t perfect, but when we miss the mark, we own it and correct it because your trust is essential to our success.

What I’ve learned in the last 262 days is that Texans still value straightforward, fact-driven journalismsomething that’s hard to find among the circus of today’s broadcast, cable, and print outlets. In just 262 days, more than 200,000 readers have joined us, allowing us to grow into one of the strongest, fairest news platforms in the state.

But let me be candid. To keep delivering free, unbiased news, I need your support. Although I appreciate our advertisers, they don’t cover all our costs.  Many of you have asked how you can help. The Texas Flyover is, and will always be, 100% free. But to maintain that, I’m asking readers who can make a special contribution to consider doing so.

September 30th is a crucial deadline for me. I understand that not everyone is in a position to give, and for some, even $15 is a big sacrifice. Any amount, however large or small, will go a long way in helping us continue to provide fair, unbiased news and meet our financial goals by the end of the month. Will you make a special contribution today?

Election season is in full swing, bringing with it a flood of biased reporting. The Texas Flyover was created for people tired of the usual partisan slant, who simply want straightforward truth—and that’s what we’re committed to providing.
