TX Supreme Court Upholds Gun Ban

On Thursday night, the Texas Supreme Court decided not to block a firearms ban at the State Fair of Texas. 

Justice Jimmy Blalock wrote the opinion, saying that the court “cannot possibly order the State Fair to allow handguns to be carried at this year’s Fair,” given that AG Paxton’s legal team isn’t arguing that the Fair has a legal right to allow the guns to be carried. 

Around 100,000 people will visit the Fair each day during the 24 days it runs. 

Amtrak Gives High-Speed Rail Details

Amtrak’s VP of high-speed rail, Andy Byford, discussed details this week for the proposed rail line between Dallas and Houston. 

The line would reduce an estimated 12,000-15,000 cars on I45, according to Amtrak, and would utilize 200 mph Japanese bullet train technology. 

The proposal has drawn criticism from groups like Texans Against High-Speed Rail, concerned about the taxpayer dollars required and the usage of eminent domain powers.

Byford said in his statement that “The next six months are going to be very busy,” referencing the design and research work still remaining. 

Longhorns to Play First SEC Game

UT will make its SEC debut today against Mississippi State. 

It’s the Longhorn’s first official game against an SEC opponent as a member of the conference, but they have plenty of history with the conference. Since 2000, Texas has a 6-8 record versus SEC opponents. 

As of last night, quarterback Quinn Ewers was still listed as questionable with his abdominal injury. If Ewers can’t go, Arch Manning will get his first start conference game start.
