Article Icon 1Burrows Targets Online Gaming Violence

Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows has tasked members with investigating online gaming platforms after a simulation of the 2022 Uvalde school shooting was discovered on Roblox, an online gaming platform popular among children, where users can design and play their own games.

Turning an unspeakable act of violence, whose scars remain across the Uvalde community, into entertainment is a profound moral failure,” said Burrows. State Rep. Don McLaughlin (R-Uvalde) agreed. “Turning the murder of innocent children and teachers into virtual content is beyond sick,” he said.

Burrows asked lawmakers to evaluate gaming sites’ safety features, explore age verification and parental consent requirements for such platforms, assess developers’ liability for exploiting children, and examine the extent to which federal laws shield platforms from litigation.

In a statement, Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman said the simulation was taken down and that the user who uploaded it was banned, adding that certain platform features are restricted based on users’ ages. “Violent extremism and depictions of sensitive real-world events are against our policies,” he said.

A 55-year-old woman was arrested in Waxahachie on Monday for the alleged murder of her husband in 2002.

Frank Weiss, then 57, was found with gunshot wounds to the chest near Lake Lewisville in Frisco. Police used “advancements in investigative techniques, modern technology, along with new information from a key witness” to obtain a warrant to arrest Lisa Honrud, his wife at the time.

For 24 years, the Weiss family has waited for answers,” said Frisco Police Chief David Shilson. “Today’s arrest is an important step toward justice, and we will continue working until everyone involved is held accountable.”

I dreamed of there being an answer, but I didn’t expect one,” said Carla Weiss, the victim’s 44-year-old daughter. She told a local news outlet she doesn’t believe Honrud acted alone.

Article Icon 1Texas Pushes Ahead on Psychedelic Research

The state of Texas is investing $50 million into research on the effectiveness of psychedelics like ibogaine for treating traumatic brain injuries and addiction. UT Health Houston and UT Medical Branch in Galveston are leading the effort.

The funding was authorized last year by legislation establishing a consortium of universities, hospitals, and drug companies to develop a psychedelic therapeutic that could obtain FDA approval. The bill requires a participating drug developer to match the state’s $50 million investment and agree to share future profits with Texas.

Last month, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dustin Burrows announced the program would move forward, even though none of the pharmaceutical companies’ proposals were approved.

President Trump signed an executive order over the weekend that provides $50 million for research into psychedelics and reduces the regulatory barriers associated with it.

I think it’s a very exciting development, and we’ll see how it plays out in the coming weeks to months,” said Dr. Greg Fonzo of UT Austin’s Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy.

Why Your Meals Are Getting Harder to Digest

Remember when you could eat a big pasta dinner, a greasy burger, or a late-night slice of pizza and feel completely fine the next morning?

If that’s no longer the case, don’t blame the food.

Blame your enzymes.

Here’s something most people never hear from their doctors: as you age, your body produces significantly fewer digestive enzymes. These are the proteins responsible for breaking down everything you eat—proteins into amino acids, fats into fatty acids, carbs into fuel your cells can actually use.

When enzyme levels drop, food doesn’t fully break down the way it should. The result? Bloating, gas, and that heavy, sluggish feeling that hits within 30 minutes of eating — even when you’re eating “clean.”

MassZymes from BIOptimizers was built to fix exactly this. It delivers 18 digestive enzymes in one formula — including 4x more protease than most brands — to support complete digestion of proteins, fats, carbs, and dairy at every stage.
