The Roundup

Article Icon 1Tornado Hits San Antonio Amid Flooding

A tornado touched down Wednesday near The Rim in northwest Bexar County, damaging an apartment complex and businesses as slow-moving storms continued to drench South Texas and the Hill Country.

The heaviest rain, up to 16 inches, has fallen in Uvalde County, where officials reported 25 high-water rescues by Wednesday morning. A Flash Flood Emergency was later declared for Boerne, where crews pulled residents from rising water near Main Street.

No deaths or injuries have been reported. Governor Greg Abbott issued disaster declarations for dozens of counties, and Kerr County officials said they are in contact with summer camps along the Guadalupe River, where floods killed more than 130 people last year.

Article Icon 1ICE Shooting Fallout Widens in Houston

President Trump on Wednesday said ICE agents should resume most vehicle stops, apparently opposing a pause prompted by fatal shootings in Houston and Maine.

The pause followed the July 7 death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, who was shot by an ICE agent during a stop of his work van in Houston’s East End. The Department of Homeland Security says Salgado Araujo rammed a law enforcement vehicle, and the agent fired in self-defense.

Attorneys for the three surviving passengers dispute that account, saying no agent was in the van’s path and the shots came from the side. The FBI has obtained a warrant to search the van.

Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare says his office has issued dozens of subpoenas and is “more than prepared” to file charges if it finds criminal wrongdoing. Federal officials have not named the agent who fired.

Article Icon 1Paxton Investigates LinkedIn Over ‘Ghost Jobs’

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton opened an investigation into LinkedIn over claims that the platform advertised and profited from fake job listings, known as “ghost jobs,” that were shown to paying Premium subscribers.

His office issued a Civil Investigative Demand for documents on LinkedIn’s advertising, verification practices, and Premium subscriptions, which run $39.99 to $69.99 per month. The office says LinkedIn does not independently verify the hiring status of most listings.

Independent studies estimate ghost jobs may account for one-fifth to one-third of online job postings, according to the attorney general’s office.

LinkedIn defended its marketplace, saying its policies “require that jobs posted be authentic and accurately represented.” The investigation has not resulted in charges or a lawsuit.
