Ten Texas companies are among the 100 best large employers in the nation, according to Forbes‘ latest annual ranking based on anonymous employee surveys. Half of these companies, led by Houston Methodist at No. 3, are in the healthcare services sector.
Other healthcare-oriented companies include Cook Children’s Health Care System in Fort Worth (No. 22), Baptist Health System in San Antonio (No. 27), MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (No. 32), and Texas Health Resources in Arlington (No. 100).
Southwest Airlines (No. 54), H-E-B (No. 55), and Toyota North America in Plano (No. 71) also scored well. Irving-based Commercial Metals Company (No. 36) and Conroe Independent School District (No. 69) round out the Texas firms on the list.
Bee Cave Accuses Former City Manager of Fraud
Following a January ruling from a Travis County judge that allowed construction on a large distribution center in Bee Cave to continue, the city amended its original lawsuit by alleging that the project’s developers colluded with former City Manager Clint Garza to conceal information from city council members.
The lawsuit claims Garza received cash and gifts in exchange for keeping the council in the dark about a change in ownership and development plans for the property. The city is seeking over a million dollars in damages and wants the 270,000-square-foot business park torn down.
A representative for developers KBC and Velocis denied the allegations, characterizing the new charges as “a desperate attempt to repackage these allegations to justify hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars used for this lawsuit.”
Fisherman Ross Gomez caught the same trophy largemouth bass he snagged two years ago in Lake Alan Henry last week, earning a shoutout from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) on social media.
Gomez initially caught the fish at the Lubbock-area reservoir on Feb. 10, 2023, when it weighed 13.22 pounds. The fish was transported to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, where it was tagged. Its DNA was analyzed and used to spawn 33,649 fingerlings that were stocked into Texas lakes.
When Gomez caught the fish again last week, it weighed 14.78 pounds, making it one of the biggest catches of the season.
TPWD congratulated Gomez on being “reunited” with the fish, calling it a “Bigger Better Bass bromance,” as both catches were made right before Valentine’s Day.
