Article Icon 1 Governors and Protestors at the Border

Governor Abbott hosted a briefing yesterday in Eagle Pass with 13 Republican Governors to address the ongoing border crisis. He pledged to expand border security operations in Texas and had this to say:

We are here to send a loud and clear message that we are banding together to fight to ensure that we will be able to maintain our constitutional guarantee that states will be able to defend against any type of imminent danger.”

Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Sanders also spoke, saying that President Biden has failed at the border and that other states are stepping in to help Texas in response.

On Saturday, about a thousand people gathered for the Take Our Border Back protest in Quemado to voice their displeasure at the amount of migrants flowing into the U.S.

Article Icon 1 CIA Leaker gets 40 Years

Lubbock native and former CIA employee Joshua Schulte has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for leaking classified material to Wikileaks.

The leak, known as “Vault 7,” included instruction manuals for old hacking tools, and the size of the breach is comperable to that of former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

WikiLeaks released a statement indicating the material was provided anonymously by a source who wanted to spark public debate on whether the CIA had exceeded its hacking capabilities and authority.

Fruit trees typically need over 700 chill hours (between 32-45 degrees) to yield healthy crops, and the crops won’t produce a healthy harvest if the unusually warm weather continues.

Local fruit producers expressed their biggest concern with the early blooms:

Hopefully we don’t get another one of these freezes, because if they do bud out enough ahead of time, and a big freeze comes later and burns off all the buds, we’ve got to start all over.
