Article Icon 1Panic at Dallas Cheerleading Event

A fight that broke out during a cheerleading competition at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas on Saturday sparked a “panic” when noises caused by falling poles were mistaken for gunshots.

Attendees fled the building in a “stampede,” and 10 people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Activities were canceled for the rest of the day but resumed Sunday “with enhanced security measures.”

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The National Cheerleaders Association All-Star Championship was expected to bring 58,000 people to Dallas for the weekend. While Dallas has hosted the annual competition for the past 30 years, next year’s championship will be held in Houston.

Article Icon 1Texas Company Puts Lander on Moon

Blue Ghost One, a lunar lander developed by Cedar Park’s Firefly Aerospace, successfully touched down on the moon yesterday morning after a 45-day journey, becoming the first commercial spacecraft to achieve the feat.

The lander will conduct several experiments for NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, including collecting samples and testing a machine designed to prevent dust buildup. It will also capture images of a lunar sunset—the first since the Apollo missions—and take photos of a total lunar eclipse on March 14.

Blue Ghost is expected to operate until the end of the current lunar day—about two weeks from now—when its solar panels will stop providing power.

A lander developed by Houston-based Intuitive Machines is scheduled to join Blue Ghost on the moon this Thursday. One of the company’s landers reached the moon last year, but it was damaged on impact.

Article Icon 1NASCAR Visits Austin

NASCAR’s third Cup Series race of the 2025 season was held yesterday at the Circuit of the Americas track in Austin. Christopher Bell earned his second consecutive and 11th career win during the 95-lap, 228-mile contest.

It was the fifth year NASCAR held a race at the 3.4-mile course completed in 2012 to host Formula 1 contests. This year’s course was shortened to 2.3 miles, eliminating the track’s longest straightaway.

After finishing second at COTA last year, Bell took the lead in the final laps of the race and held off the previous winner, William Byron, to get the win. Connor Zilisch, 18, made his Cup Series debut, finishing last after winning the Xfinity Series race the day before.
