Excessive heat alerts were issued throughout the state of Texas this week, and forecasts are not indicating any relief over the weekend.

Austin is expecting another 7-plus days in triple-digit temperatures, and Dallas officials reported the county’s first heat-related death for the year.

The hot conditions are also elevating the risk of wildfires across the state.

A Jourdanton mom and stepdad have been arrested for not seeking medical care for their daughter until she had been unconscious for four days. The 12-year-old girl, Miranda Sipps, died Monday shortly after arriving at the emergency room.

Atascosa County authorities have been called to the home at least three times since October 2023.
