Article Icon 1 Paxton, Cornyn Fight Over Ukraine Aid

Two Texas Republicans, US Sen. John Cornyn and State AG Ken Paxton, fired off heated barbs on X Tuesday following Senate passage of a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

Paxton criticized Cornyn for supporting the military aid package:

“Unbelievable that John Cornyn would stay up all night to defend other countries borders, but not America.”

Cornyn soon responded by highlighting Paxton’s legal troubles:

“Ken, your criminal defense lawyers are calling to suggest you spend less time pushing Russian propaganda and more time defending longstanding felony charges against you in Houston.”

Article Icon 1Task Force Shows Success on Border

Texas officials touted the success of a newly-created task force of 28 agencies cooperating on border control in Eagle Pass. Gov. Greg Abbott said illegal entries have dropped from 3,000 a day to three a day.

The Lone Star Task Force, which includes Texas Rangers, state troopers, and county sheriffs, recently provided Zapata county with a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter, improving their border operations by the air.

Federal Border Patrol officials said this week that arrests in Eagle Pass plummeted 76% from December to its lowest number in over two years. And arrests in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, dropped 60% to the lowest since July 2020.

One woman died and five others were injured after a car crashed into the emergency room at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

Two of the injured were children, and the 57-year-old driver, Michelle Holloway, was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the children has life-threatening injuries. Four of the injured were transferred to other hospital for treatment.

Police said the crash didn’t appear to be deliberate, nor did they have evidence that Holloway suffered a medical incident. The investigation is continuing.
