Article Icon 1Paxton Leads Suit Against Money Managers

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is leading a coalition of 11 Republican-led states in suing BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street, accusing them of violating antitrust laws by influencing coal companies to reduce production, leading to higher energy prices.

The federal lawsuit alleges that the country’s three largest money managers used their investments and participation in environmental initiatives to pressure coal companies to reduce output by more than half by 2030. The states are asking the court to bar the firms from continuing market manipulation.

Texas will not tolerate the illegal weaponization of the financial industry in service of a destructive, politicized environmental agenda,” Paxton said.

Article Icon 1Study: Organized Retail Theft on the Rise

A newly released study from the Texas Comptroller’s office highlights the rise of organized retail theft in the state, which is estimated to exceed $463 million in lost sales and tax revenue every year.

A recently created task force has recommended creating a statewide reporting system to share crime data and track offenders across cities, enabling better coordination among law enforcement.

Proposed changes include revising laws requiring stores to wait 10 days to report thefts and implementing store walk-through programs to identify vulnerabilities.

Are we going to completely eliminate it tomorrow? No. Are we going to significantly reduce it? Yes,” State Comptroller Glenn Hegar said.

Article Icon 1Pecan Pie Is King In Texas

Pumpkin pie is the iconic Thanksgiving dessert, but another pie is more popular in Texas and several other Southern states. You guessed it: pecan pie.

According to a 2018 survey by GE Appliances, pecan pie is the dessert of choice in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Apart from folks in the Northeast, who prefer apple pie after their Thanksgiving meal, most of the rest of the country goes for pumpkin pie.

Texas is one of the country’s leading producers of pecans, with an output of 31 million pounds in 2023. Extreme weather in recent years has hampered production, which has reached as high as 60-70 million pounds in the past.

Dear Texas Flyover Reader,

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope your day is filled with family, food, and football—and I hope you take a little time to consider the blessings we enjoy in this great land.

Today, I’m thankful for turkey (the white meat, of course), my two children (even when they act like turkeys; ever had a bow and arrow fired at your head during a Zoom call?), and for the freedom to enjoy it all.

Here’s another one of mine: The demand in America for biased, elitist news media is dropping. MSNBC’s audience is down 39% since October, and Comcast has announced plans to spin the network off into a new company. (The new entity will be named…SpinCo. These things really do write themselves. :slightly_smiling_face:)

It’s a bright sign for America’s future that folks are ditching the propaganda factories, and I want as many of those people as possible to join our movement for reliable news.

Here’s another thing I’m thankful for: Over 250,000 of you have  already joined The Texas Flyover , and you’ve been telling your friends about us! I’m grateful for each of you.

Today, if The Texas Flyover is on your list of things to be thankful for, would you help me with a donation? Your direct support is the best way to help us cover our costs, and it would mean a lot to me.
