Article Icon 1Homan Visits Border With Abbott

President-elect Donald Trump’s “border czar,” Tom Homan, visited the Texas-Mexico border with Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday, promising improved border security and mass deportations in response to what he called a “mass illegal immigration crisis.”

Earlier this week, Abbott praised Homan as the “right guy” to tackle the challenge, emphasizing that he looks forward to having an ally in the federal government. Abbott has routinely clashed with President Biden over Operation Lone Star, the state-sponsored border security initiative he launched shortly after Biden took office.

Homan, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement during Trump’s first term, vowed to “help Abbott finish the job he started,” saying the two were “already planning” how to coordinate their efforts. During Tuesday’s visit, Abbott and Homan served Thanksgiving meals to National Guard troops stationed at Eagle Pass.

We’ve had people who were antagonistic to Texas securing the border. Now we have allies. It’s going to be Texas working collaboratively with the Trump administration,” Abbott said.

Greenville Police Officer Cooper Dawson was ambushed and fatally shot Monday night while pursuing a suspect who fled from a traffic stop, marking the first line-of-duty death for the department in over 100 years.

Despite critical injuries, Dawson returned fire and wounded the attacker, who remains hospitalized in critical condition. Dawson died early Tuesday morning at Medical City Plano, where dozens of officers from departments across North Texas gathered to honor him.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation at the request of Greenville Police. The suspect’s name has not been released.

Dawson joined the Greenville Police Department in 2023 after nearly seven years of service in Garland. He is remembered as “a devoted husband, father, and a loving family man.”
