Question: What Texas revolutionary platted the layouts for Caldwell, Waco, and Stephenville?

Answer: George Bernard Erath. Born in Austria in 1813, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1832 and settled in Texas the following year, working as a surveyor. He fought in the Battle of San Jacinto and later represented Milam County in the Republic of Texas Congress and the state legislature.

His memoirs, dictated to his daughter at the age of 73, are one of the most significant sources of information on the Texas Revolution and the Republic. Erath County was named in his honor.
