Article Icon 1Majority of Texans Back School Choice

Sixty-five percent of Texans support legislation that would provide state-funded private school vouchers to all parents, according to a recent survey conducted by the University of Houston and Texas Southern University.

The findings represent a significant shift from last October when a similar poll reported that 49% of Texans favor school vouchers for all parents.

Gov. Greg Abbott has made school choice a legislative priority in recent years, and he supported challengers to lawmakers who opposed his agenda in this year’s Republican primary.

Several of those incumbents lost their reelection bids, prompting Abbott to say he feels “certain” school choice will pass next session.

A large sinkhole appeared in the gated community of Memorial Green in West Houston on Saturday morning, forcing eight families to evacuate. Check out the photos.

The Houston Fire Department reported that the sinkhole was caused by the collapse of an underground cistern weakened by recent heavy rains.

While no injuries were reported, the area was cordoned off as engineers assessed the damage and monitored the sinkhole’s stability.

Article Icon 1New Braunfels Is State’s Most Family-Friendly City

New Braunfels ranked as the most family-friendly city in Texas (and the eighth most family-friendly in the United States), according to a study by Rustic Pathways.

The ranking was based on various factors, including safety, affordability, and family activities.

New Braunfels scored highly due to its low crime rate, as well as attractions like the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers, Schlitterbahn Waterpark, and the McKenna Children’s Museum.

Other Texas cities in the top 25 include Frisco at No. 21 and Waco at No. 25.
