The Roundup

Article Icon 1 Wildfires Blaze in the Panhandle

A series of wildfires have engulfed more than 60,000 acres across the Texas Panhandle, fueled by intense 60-mph wind gusts.

Firefighters are working to contain the fires across Hutchinson, Moore, Gray, and Armstrong counties. Texas A&M Forest Services is actively monitoring all fire incidents, which you can see here.

State and federal authorities have confirmed that strong winds and rising temperatures will increase the fire risk throughout the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles over the next few days.

Authorities released the security and body-cam footage (warning: graphic video!) of the shooting that took place at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church on February 12. The Houston church security camera footage captured 26 minutes of the ordeal.

An officer’s camera shows the initial shot fired, followed by people fleeing the scene. The officer then encouraged another to confront the shooter, quietly invoking, “Father God, be with us.”

The assailant, 36-year-old Genesse Moreno, shot one church attendee in the leg and left her 7-year-old son in critical condition. After police eliminated the threat, medical teams confirmed she was deceased.

Article Icon 1 Texas Man Gets 30 Years for 5th DWI

A 67-year-old man from Sherman was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his fifth DWI conviction. His blood alcohol level was .138, vs. the legal limit of .08.

The man, Larry Kitchens, was approached by police while parked at a local business. When asked for his identification, Kitchens presented an empty vodka bottle instead of his driver’s license.

Kitchens has a long history of offenses, and the Grayson County District Attorney’s office said he had previously served time for a DWI offense.
