Burrows, Paxton Petition for Democrats’ Arrests
Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) and Attorney General Ken Paxton have filed legal complaints in Illinois and California to enforce civil arrest warrants for Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to block a congressional redistricting plan.
On Thursday, they filed a lawsuit in an Illinois state court seeking the arrest of 33 Texas House Democrats. The following day, they petitioned a California court to arrest six more, citing the constitutional obligation to honor other states’ judicial proceedings.
The California lawsuit was filed in Tehama County, where 64% of voters backed President Trump in last year’s election. In Illinois, the lawsuit was filed in Adams County—four and a half hours from Chicago—where voters supported Trump by a 47% margin.
Meanwhile, Beto O’Rourke and his PAC held a rally in Fort Worth for about 200 Democratic activists. Several absent lawmakers joined the rally via video call. A state judge blocked O’Rourke from fundraising for the quorum break.
Flood Victims get $25,000 Checks
Gov. Greg Abbott visited with more than 100 flood victims at Ingram Middle School on Saturday, where he handed out $25,000 checks from the proceeds of a July 27 George Strait benefit concert.
“We know that in addition to the loss of life, there are so many people like yourselves who are struggling, trying to put their lives back together, dealing with challenges they’ve never experienced before,” said Abbott.
On Thursday, Buc-ee’s founder and CEO Arch “Beaver” Aplin III made a $1 million donation to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country during NBC’s The Today Show. Houston’s Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale delivered 400 mattresses to flood victims in Lago Vista.
Meanwhile, committees in the state House and Senate have advanced legislation to improve early warning systems, expand emergency management licensing and training requirements, and streamline volunteer response.
Trump Burger Owner Faces Deportation
Roland Mehrez Beainy, the 28-year-old Lebanese immigrant who has opened four Trump Burger restaurants across Texas since 2020, is awaiting deportation after being arrested in May and released on bond in June.
According to ICE, he was admitted to the country on a visitor visa in 2019 and failed to leave by its expiration date on Feb. 12, 2024.
Following the opening of the first Trump Burger in Bellville, Beainy opened additional locations in Flatonia, Bay City, and Houston. The chain’s pro-Trump branding and atmosphere have garnered significant attention, especially after the opening of the Houston location in April.
The Houston Chronicle recently reported that Trump Burger is also affiliated with Israeli Iyad Abuelhawa and his wife, Suad Hamedah, who are also known as Eddie and Sue Hawa.

Wyoming’s on the Verge of Becoming A Lithium Powerhouse
America needs 5X more lithium by 2035, but no new mines have opened since 1967. Meanwhile, current extraction methods are slow, waste insane amounts of water, and emit loads of carbon.
So Vero3 devised a way to not only cleanly produce 9K tons of lithium, they’ll generate 2.3B gallons of clean water and permanently store 3M tons of carbon in the process – all from the same 12,000-acre Wyoming site.
It’s the kind of zero-waste, vertically integrated model legacy operators can’t match. Even better? Shares are now open to the public ahead of commercial trials and a targeted 2027 Nasdaq IPO.
