Article Icon 1 Fallout Continues in Beryl’s Wake

Acting Governor Dan Patrick accused President Biden of misleading Texans when he claimed he had to push Patrick to get federal recovery assistance in the wake of Hurricane Beryl.

Patrick said Biden had gone back on his word from a Thursday phone call regarding the number of Texas counties that would receive assistance and generally slowed down the flow of federal aid.

On Friday, a dozen members of Texas’s congressional delegation pressed Biden for additional federal assistance, calling on FEMA to grant individual aid to uninsured households after the storm.

Meanwhile, Patrick stated in a Thursday news conference that CenterPoint underestimated the impact Beryl would have on Texas and that the energy company would be investigated as nearly a million customers are still without power.

A suspect has been arrested and charged for the Thursday shooting death of sheriff’s deputy Fernando Esqueda.

Ronald Palmer, Jr., accused of killing Esqueda in an ambush after the officer responded to reports of an assault at a Little Caesar’s pizzeria, was arrested at around 7 p.m. after authorities urged him to turn himself in.

The incident began late Wednesday night, and a manhunt was underway throughout the day Thursday after Esqueda’s death early in the morning. Palmer was reportedly upset because his pizza order was incorrect.

Article Icon 1 Gator Sightings on the Rise in North Texas

An alligator was spotted along a creek in Coppell this week, and it’s not the only time the big reptiles have been seen in North Texas lately.

Last May, two alligators were seen swimming in Eagle Mountain Lake, and more have been seen in the Trinity River.

Eric Brittingham, president of North Texas Wildlife on the Move, says the recent change in gator habitat is due to increased rainfall, and he said that North Texas sightings of the reclusive creatures actually date back to the 1800s.
