Article Icon 1New Quake Hits West Texas

5.1-magnitude earthquake rattled West Texas on Friday morning, with tremors felt all the way to Lubbock, about 80 miles from the epicenter.

Scurry County Judge Dan Hicks declared a disaster and requested assistance to address damage from one of the strongest quakes in Texas history.

This is the 61st earthquake to strike Scurry County in the last week, including a 4.9-magnitude quake Monday night.

Article Icon 1 Cartel Leaders Arrested in El Paso

U.S. law enforcement arrested Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of imprisoned drug lord “El Chapo,“ along with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada Garcia, co-founder of the infamous Sinaloa Cartel.

Authorities believe Guzman Lopez, or another senior leader of the cartel, might have tricked “El Mayo” into boarding the U.S.-bound plane that landed in El Paso, where the two men were arrested.

Both face multiple charges in the U.S. for leading the cartel’s criminal operations, including large-scale manufacturing and trafficking of fentanyl.

Article Icon 1Ranking: Top Suburbs

Cinco Ranch, a suburb near Houston, and Coppel, near Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport, both finished in the Top 10 nationally in a list of the “Best Suburbs to Live in the U.S.”

The list, compiled by Travel + Leisure, ranked Cinco Ranch No. 2 in the country for its resort-style facilities and high-rated schools. Coppel was ranked No. 5 for its parks, school system and laid-back lifestyle.

In a different ranking, Boerne, a town in Kendall County, was one of six picturesque suburbs that “could become unaffordable” by the end of 2025 because of rising home prices due to its popularity.
