Article Icon 1Texas Ends Remote Work for State Employees

Governor Greg Abbott has instructed heads of state agencies to end remote work as an option for state employees, mirroring a similar order from President Trump for federal workers and following a trend among large corporations.

Many state employees received an email this week directing them to return to the office full time “as soon as practicable,” with some remote workers making the switch as early as Friday.

In some cases, down-sized office spaces may limit how many remote workers can return, leaving their continued employment in question.

A statement from Abbott’s office justified the decision, saying, “Texans expect their public servants to be present and engaged in the work on their behalf.”

The Texas measles outbreak has grown to 198 confirmed cases in the state, according to a new report released Friday.

With 30 cases reported in New Mexico, the outbreak has surpassed the 200 mark and resulted in 23 hospitalizations.

The outbreak has reenergized debates around vaccination as most of the cases have been reported in unvaccinated children.

One deceased person in New Mexico tested positive for the disease in a potential second death from the outbreak.

Article Icon 1Texas A&M Selects New Chancellor

Texas A&M has named Glenn Hegar as the sole finalist for its chancellor position, overseeing 11 university campuses and eight state agencies.

Hegar is an A&M graduate and comes to his new role from the elected position of Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

The announcement, which Hegar called “a tremendous honor,” initiates a 21-day “comment period” before the board can finalize the decision.

Hegar replaces John Sharp, A&M’s longest-serving chancellor, who announced his retirement last June.

Pet insurance could help you offset rising veterinary costs

Veterinarians nationwide reported that corporate managers pushed clinics to focus on profit, with vets often paid based on revenue. This encouraged them to see more pets, order more tests, and upsell services, creating a growing burden for uninsured pet owners.

Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement.
