Article Icon 1 Uvalde Police Chief Resigns

Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez announced his resignation just days after the city’s independent investigation cleared the officers involved in the Robb Elementary school shooting of wrongdoing.

Rodriguez was vacationing in Arizona on May 24, 2022, when an armed teen killed nineteen children and two teachers. In his resignation letter, he did not mention the shooting and focused on starting a new chapter in his career.

Residents expressed outrage over the sudden resignation and demanded further accountability from the city council and District Attorney Christina Mitchell. No officers have been officially charged in connection to the tragic incident.

Article Icon 1 Courts Affirm Parental Rights

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a Texas law requiring parental consent for minors to obtain birth control.

The unanimous decision affirmed a 2022 ruling that ended confidential access to contraceptives for Texas teens through federally funded family planning clinics.

The three judges said the federal Title X family planning services conflicted with Texas law, which requires parents to be involved with their children’s medical care. The case was brought by a Texas man who claimed his rights as a father trying to raise three daughters were being violated.

Article Icon 1 Texas Braces for Eclipse Mania

Total eclipse mania is taking over Texas. Counties and cities are encouraging residents to stock up on essentials, such as food and gas, and multiple school districts have canceled classes.

A mass influx of visitors is expected to converge along the path of totality, resulting in state authorities and first responders prepping roadways for logistical challenges.

To alleviate any concerns, check out this list of ten things to consider before April 8.
