Good morning! On this day in 1886, a hurricane struck the town of Indianola on Matagorda Bay, destroying the town for the second time in 11 years. Once the second busiest port in Texas, Indianola is now a ghost town.
You probably already knew it, but now there are receipts to show that bugs are really bad in Texas. Check out the story below!

USS Kingsville To Be Commissioned Saturday
The USS Kingsville (LCS-36), the Navy’s newest littoral combat ship, arrived in Corpus Christi this past weekend, ahead of its commissioning this Saturday.
The Kingsville is the only active combat ship named after a Texas city, honoring the rich history of Naval Air Station Kingsville, where Navy pilots have trained since 1942.
The ship, designed for coastal operations, was built by Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama. It is equipped with a helipad, a large-caliber gun, and a missile launcher.

Central Texas Hit with 16th Boil Water Notice in 2 Years
About 20,000 customers of a Central Texas water supplier have been under a boil water notice since last Wednesday—the sixteenth in the last two years—and there’s no word from the company on when it will be lifted.
Last week, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found that chlorine levels in the water were too low, triggering the boil water notice and prompting the Kempner Water Supply Corporation to announce a system purge scheduled for next Monday.
The company’s customers, who live in Lampasas, Coryell, and Bell Counties, have been dealing with water quality issues since at least 2016. The aging infrastructure in the region is a contributing factor.
Kempner Mayor John Wilkerson invited representatives from the company to attend a public hearing next week, but they declined.

Texas Cities Among ‘Buggiest’ in U.S.
Texas metros are dominating the list of “buggiest” U.S. cities in 2024, with Dallas, Houston, and Austin claiming three of the top six spots, according to a report by Thumbtack.
Dallas ranks third with a 7.7% year-over-year increase in pest control requests, while Houston places fifth with an 8% uptick. Atlanta retained its No. 1 position for the second consecutive year.
The report, based on millions of home project requests nationwide, indicates a significant rise in demand for pest control services across major U.S. markets.
With 2024 projected to be the hottest summer on record, battling bugs in Texas is expected to be particularly challenging.
