Article Icon 1 Texas Oil $26 Billion Mega Deal

Diamondback Energy has agreed to buy Endeavor Energy Resources in a $26 billion cash-and-stock deal, creating a significant presence in the west Texas Permian Basin—the largest oil field in the United States.

The merged corporation, headquartered in Midland, would rank as the area’s third most significant oil and gas producer, trailing behind Exxon and Chevron.

This deal highlights a more significant ‘land grab‘ of the Permian Basin—where companies merge to increase oil production. The largest merger was Exxon Mobil’s 2023 acquisition of Pioneer Natural Resources in a deal worth $60 billion.

Article Icon 1 New Details on Osteen Church Shooter

Police on Monday revealed new details about the mentally ill shooter who injured two and was then killed at Joel Olsteen’s megachurch in Houston, Texas.

The assailant has been identified as 36-year-old Genesse Moreno, a person who used both male and female aliases. Police said Moreno had a history of mental illness and a long criminal record, and the words “Free Palestine” were written on the rifle.

Moreno’s 7-year-old son, shot during the melee, is in critical condition at Texas Children’s Hospital. One church attendee was also shot in the leg but has been released from the hospital.

Article Icon 1 Texas ranked No. 1 for Gen Z

Texas has been ranked the No. 1 most popular destination for young Gen Z adults to move to—drawn by lower costs and better job opportunities, according to a new analysis of 2022 data by Zillow.

Zillow, which tracks home sales data, defines Gen Z as between the ages of 20 and 28. The state saw a net migration of more than 76,000 Gen Z adults in 2022, almost double the number that relocated to California.

According to census data, Texas leads the nation in population growth overall, and most of the growth is from new people moving here, including young adults. You can see Zillow’s Top 10 Gen Z state list here.
