Article Icon 1Uvalde Releases Records from School Shooting

The city of Uvalde has released a significant collection of records from the May 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, including body camera footage, 911 calls, and other documents.

This release, resulting from a legal case brought by media outlets, provides insight into the chaotic scene and the heavily criticized slow law enforcement response.

The records include a 911 call from the shooter’s uncle and harrowing communications from teachers inside the school. They also reveal that officers heard shots roughly 45 minutes after arriving on the scene but waited another 30 minutes or so to confront the gunman.

Some news organizations are still pursuing legal action for the release of additional records from other agencies involved in the incident.

NASA has launched a 45-day simulated Mars mission involving four volunteers at Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The team consists of a structural engineer, an aerospace engineer, a medical director, and a navigation engineer, who will live in a 650-square-foot habitat from August 9 to September 23.

Participants will engage in various tasks, including plant harvesting, shrimp growing, and simulated Mars walks using virtual reality. Take a look at these photos.

This mission is part of a series of four analog missions conducted by NASA’s Human Research Program to explore the effects of Mars-like journeys on crew members’ mental and physical health.

A fish native to Africa was recently caught in Central Texas, prompting the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to warn against dumping aquarium fish in lakes and waterways.

In a Friday Facebook post, the TPWD reported a hybrid peacock cichlid was caught in the South Fork of the San Gabriel River near Leander. It’s the first time the striped orange and black fish has been caught anywhere in the U.S.

Officials urge anglers to report and keep any caught hybrid peacock cichlids, as these non-native fish can introduce diseases or become invasive predators, posing significant threats to local ecosystems.
