Article Icon 1Texas Sues General Motors For Selling Driver Data

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against General Motors, alleging that the company illegally collected and sold drivers’ data to insurance companies without their consent.

The suit claims that GM used technology in car models from 2015 and later to gather detailed driving data from over 1.8 million Texans and 14 million vehicles, which was then sold to companies that generated “driving scores” for insurance providers.

Paxton argues that GM deceived customers by encouraging them to enroll in programs like OnStar Smart Driver without fully disclosing how their data would be used and sold.

Two Texas universities have been selected to participate in a U.S. Department of Energy project that aims to develop strategies for commercial-scale carbon capture, transport, and storage.

Texas Tech University and the University of Texas at Austin will each receive a little more than $6.2 million in funding to provide technical assistance to industry partners in the Permian Basin and the Gulf of Mexico region, respectively.

As government officials and industry executives have become increasingly focused on efforts to reduce carbon emissions, carbon capture technologies have emerged as an innovative and lucrative method of achieving that goal.

The Paramount+ series “1923,” a prequel to “Yellowstone,” is expanding its filming locations after Austin and Lockhart to include downtown San Antonio.

Production is scheduled to take place on Broadway and Travis Street in mid-September, transforming the area to represent the 1920s era.

The show, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, continues to tell the early story of the Dutton family.

Additional filming is expected to take place in Galveston.
